Many might think and reason that tech, and social media is exclusively a domain for the younger generation. However, recently more and more senior adults are enthusiastically joining the tech and social media landscape and discovering the life-enriching benefits of new technology. New technology will not only help you share or have a thing in common with your tech crazy grandchildren; it will also help you to keep up with the times as well as your long lost older acquaintances and younger family members.

As a result of this new trend, the inaccurate stereotype that all seniors are resistant to new technology is quickly beginning to fade out. However, despite this kind of progress, too many senior adults are still reluctant to use technology and social media. There are a few seniors who have gone a step further and explored with an open mind, about the different kinds of devices, technology, and their benefits in their lives tried a few and made informed decisions that they do not want or need them.
A few seniors still haven’t made an active step even after reading and hearing about these new devices. They will never fully know what they might be missing out on. However, if you could make and objective decision to go ahead and try and learn about new technology and their wonderful and life-enriching benefits, then there is a big chance you might want to try them out.

So what is the best device for a senior adult?

There is a myriad of devices that can be used by seniors today, and just to get a glimpse, there are computers, tablets, e-readers and smartphones. You might feel overwhelmed at all these devices, and what they can do, however, you need to understand that you do not need to have or learn how to use each and every feature of a device. You can be able to pick and focus on a feature that interest you.

Smartphones

Smartphones are typically portable phones with computer-like capabilities. However, they are operated by a touch pad as compared to the traditional computer keyboards. You can make calls, send text messages and access the internet through its various applications. If this is your first attempt on technology, then smartphones are a great place to start, they are much easier to learn, portable and less expensive. So what can a smartphone do for you? The smartphone will, first of all, replace your landline; they are also very convenient, and you do not necessarily need to have a coin in hand to make a call. This new technology offers safety, your friends and relatives will always know where you are, and you can quickly make a call in case of an emergency to the police, ambulance, and friends or family.

Computers

These devices are available in tablet, desktop and notebook designs. These are powerful machines for both personal and business use. The most common features of a computer are emails, calendar, contacts, address book and the browsers. You could also enjoy photo libraries, music, live video chats with friends and family and productivity programs.

E-readers

As much as you might be have access to millions of books at your local library or your own personal collection, e-readers are a much safe, more convenient, space saving technology that could be a great help to you. With the rising cost of print books, small apartments, and shrinking storage space, an e-reader could come in handy. With these portable readers, you can be able to store hundreds of books in a single device. You can also be able to access, books, magazines, tutorials, educational materials and much more.

Technology is fast advancing, and moving to greater heights it’s time to get rid of the ‘tech-timid’ side and embrace it, you can never be too sure what excitement you could gain from it.
